80mm F5.6 Refractor "The Grab and Go Scope"
It is excellent for birding, and astronomy; designed to delight the user. It has multiple uses and is small enough to be transported anywhere. A smaller mount can be used to stabilize the scope. We recommend a fluid type head to allow the user to move the scope easily when tracking birds. You can use an alt/az mount or a motorized mount for astronomy. The base has a standard ¼ 20 mount which will fit all tripods. The optical tube assembly (OTA) is rubber coated to protect the tube. The new Vernonscope 10:1 focuser is compact and smooth.
Originally called The Brandon “Master Birder” scope, the scope is so much more. It is an 80mm F5.6 triplet refractor design that will take 1.25" or 2" prisms or diagonals.
Prisms or Amici prisms show an image so that it looks normal and correct. This is very similar to a spotting scope. Unlike a spotting scope the prism or diagonal is interchangeable. We deliver a 1.25” prism as a standard option with the scope package.
The use of a diagonal is normally used in astronomy. The image will be in reverse and this is true with all diagonals sold. Vernonscope offers the best diagonals available. We pride ourselves in making a product where the mirror in the diagonal is very flat. The flatter the diagonal the better the view from edge to edge. We guarantee flatness with a test from a Zygo interferometer. We offer silver and gold plated diagonals in 2” size and silver plated diagonals in 1.25”. Whichever you choose the views will be stunning.
You can take photos straight through the scope with a 2” adapter (to T mount) and a T mount for your type of camera (digital slr, digital mirrorless, and film).
You can also use an adapter to take photos through the eyepiece either with your type of camera (digital slr, digital mirrorless, and film). You can also use your phone.
This scope is definitely versatile.
The scope has a rubber coating on the OTA. The OTA is 16" in length and weighs 4.5lbs. The new focuser comes with 2” to 1.25” adapter so all of our eyepieces can be used with the scope. You can also use other eyepieces and finders.
If you are unsure what to do; our recommendation is the Scope with the Vernonscope Focuser, 1.25 Prism and the 20mm Eyepiece. A great way to get started!
